SumPi: A Software for the Identification of Summary Piles


Researchers often analyze sorting task data by converting the sorts into pairwise matricies, and by applying clustering algorithms or multidimensional scaling algorithms to the data. In our research in the Journal of Marketing Research, we not only show that such practices poorly represent sorting data but also provide a model to identify summary piles.

We provide Windows installation files for the software, and test sorting task datasets. The software automatically generates Excel spreadsheets that help you interpret the data, and link the sorts to other data (e.g., surveys). Matlab source code is also available.
